Dolunay ve Benekli is an interactive children’s book project developed by Kubulab in collaboration with Konya Metropolitan Municipality Social Innovation Agency (SİA). The project combines storytelling, augmented reality (AR), and historical context to create an engaging learning experience for young readers.

Set in the Neolithic settlement of Çatalhöyük, the story follows two characters, Dolunay and Benekli, as they explore daily life in one of the world’s earliest known urban communities. Through their journey, children encounter elements of prehistoric life such as early houses, tools, food preparation, and social life, allowing them to imagine how people lived thousands of years ago.

The book is supported by an augmented reality application that enriches the printed cards with interactive digital content. By scanning selected illustrations with a mobile device, readers can access animated 3D scenes and interactive elements that bring objects and environments from the story to life. This hybrid physical–digital approach encourages curiosity, supports visual learning, and transforms the book into an exploratory experience.

The project demonstrates Kubulab’s design approach that integrates storytelling, educational content, and emerging technologies. By connecting cultural heritage with playful digital interaction, Dolunay ve Benekli offers children a new way to discover history while engaging with both physical and digital media.

You can download and print the cards here.
